HDFC Bank launches ‘Dhanchayat’ in Coimbatore

HDFC Bank’s latest CSR initiative – “Dhanchayat” – was kicked off here on Saturday, next only to Madurai, in Tamil Nadu.
The initiative aims to sensitise the rural populace about the perils of borrowing from the unorganised sector and helping them understand the nitty-gritty of clean and convenient banking.
Madhsudhan Hegde, Executive Vice-President and Branch Banking Head, HDFC Bank, was in the city to flag off the HDFC Bank-branded Dhanchayat video van.
“This van would pass through 80–85 villages in and around this region over the next 45 days. It would stop at village panchayats, schools and all places enroute - wherever there is a community of people and educate them about banking with the organised sector. We are not looking for business opportunity; it is rather an awareness drive,” Hegde clarified.
Tamil Nadu is the third State after Punjab and Maharashtra where the bank is rolling out this initiative.
Two Dhanchayat vans have been allocated for the state and these would cover 300 villages over the next six to eight weeks, he said adding “at the national level, we plan to cover 5000 villages in the first phase of this drive.”
