Reserve Bank of India dispatches Re 1 notes to public sector banks

The much-awaited new Re 1 notes have finally reached banks for distribution. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sent the notes to various public sector banks a couple of days ago through its various regional offices.

Though the currency notes, printed at government mints, had reached the RBI in July, the central bank had sent them to banks only last Friday in major centres, including Hyderabad, and the distribution of the notes might continue in other places, according to reliable sources.

Interestingly, the RBI has not sent too many of the Re 1 notes. Each bank received just 3,000 packets containing Rs 3 lakh worth notes.
