Strike and Grand success
CIRCULAR No.27/143/2016/1
8-1-2016
TO ALL UNITS AND MEMBERS:
Dear Comrades,
• TODAY’S STRIKE, A GREAT SUCCESS - RED SALUTES TO ALL OF YOU
• YOU HAVE ADDED ONE MORE GOLDEN CHAPTER TO THE FIGHTING HISTORY OF AIBEA
• ASSOCIATE BANK EMPLOYEES GIVE A BEFITTING REBUFF TO THE POLICIES OF
ALLUREMENTS BY SBI & ASSOCAITE BANK MANAGEMENTS
• YOU ARE UNIQUE – YOU ARE AIBEA SOLDIERS – HATS OFF TO ALL OF YOU
Today’s All India Strike at the call of AIBEA has turned out to be a great success in all the Banks and in all the States. The strike call was given because of the adamant approach of the Associate Bank managements as dictated by the SBI management. It was in defence of our collective bargaining rights and to protect our Bipartite Settlement. It was against imposition of unilateral service conditions. It was to manifest our conviction that our service conditions are not available for sale. And, we are proud of all you, our units and dear members. You have made the strike a glorious success. As per reports reaching us from various parts of the country, the strike has been total and employees have participated in the rallies and demonstrations with great unity, traditional militancy and undoubtable conviction. The participation of our youngistans was wonderfully unique. They were in the forefront in all the demonstrations. AIBEA salutes all you for adding one more golden chapter to the glittering history of AIBEA. The first All India Bank Strike by AIBEA was on 23rd September, 1954 to protest against the unilateral modification of LAT Award by the Jawaharlal Nehru Government. Since then AIBEA has observed so many strikes against every attack on the rights of bank employees. Today one again AIBEA members have proved that they would continue to resist any action of unilateralism by the managements or the Government.
It is a matter of regret that despite the clear advice of the Chief Labour Commissioner of the Government of India to put the implementation of CPS on hold and sort out the issue by discussion with the Union, the Associate Banks, obviously at the dictates of the SBI management, refused to listen to this advice and persisted with their illegal decision and violation of Bipartite Settlement and thus forcing the strike on the employees which disrupted banking services in a big way.
This strike was not on any fresh demands. This strike was not for any additional economic demands. This strike was to tell the Government, IBA and all bank managements, particularly the managements of SBI and the Associate Banks that bank employees under the banner of AIBEA will not compromise on trade union rights, collective bargaining and bipartism for which AIBEA had fought bitter battles in the past.
The sparkling achievement of this struggle is that even though the Associate Bank managements allured the employees of these Banks with money by offering attractive allowances and other benefits, the employees of the Associate Banks saw through the game and inflicted a befitting rebuff to these sinister moves. More than 99 % of the employees in the Associate Banks have rejected the individual offer letters of the managements and refused to accept the unilateral Career Progression Scheme tailored by the SBI management and meekly followed by the Associate Banks. Threats, intimidations, allurements and all divisive tactics of the managements have failed to divert the conviction of our members in the Associate Banks. Repeatedly SBI management representatives were making statements in the various conciliation meetings that majority of the employees will accept CPS. But, our members overwhelmingly rejected the CPS offer and taught a lesson to the managements. We are proud of members in the Associate Banks for their conviction that money is not everything in life. Our members understood that CPS is just a deceitful golden dear and behind it are traps like unduly higher responsibilities, increased working hours, enlarged mobility and loss of jobs through outsourcing our regular jobs. We once again congratulate our members in the Associate Banks for the splendid trade union conviction and faith in the organisation. We congratulate our entire membership for making today’s strike a roaring success. Red Salutes to all of you, dear members.
With greetings,
Yours Comradely
C.H. VENKATACHALAM
