KHARGONE ATM DISPENSES ONE-SIDE BLANK NEW RS500 BANKNOTES

KHARGONE ATM DISPENSES ONE-SIDE BLANK NEW RS500 BANKNOTES

Days after a farmer in the State received Rs2,000 notes from a bank without the image of Mahatma Gandhi, an ATM at a village in Khargone district dispensed two ‘one-side blank’ currency of the new Rs500 denomination.

Hemant Soni in Khargone was amazed to see that the Rs500 notes dispensed from the ATM were with one-side blank, two Rs500 notes were printed on one side while the other side was completely blank.

Hemant Soni on Tuesday night used his card to withdraw Rs1,500 from a public sector bank’s ATM at Segaon village, about 40 kms from Khargone district headquarters. “Of the three Rs500 notes, two were printed on one side while the other side was completely blank,” Soni said.

He registered a complaint of the misprinted currency on Wednesday with the concerned bank officials, who subsequently replaced his notes with new ones. The bank officials, however, said the misprinted notes were received as such from the Reserve Bank of India.

“We have changed these 'misprinted' currency notes after the consumer's complaint. We are now checking the currency notes before loading them into the ATMs,” said the deputy manager of the bank's Sabji Mandi main branch . “This is a printing mistake,” he added.

SBI's Khargone currency chest incharge PS Panwar said, "Around four misprinted currency notes with one side blank were received and replaced. We tried to ensure that the customers didn't face any trouble." He added that the matter has been reported to the RBI. Another incident was reported in Khargone city when one Gajendra Singh withdrew Rs4,500 from an ATM in New Radhavallabh Market.

“One of the Rs500 notes was misprinted,” he said. Less than a week after it was reported that some farmers in Sheopur district of the state had received newly printed Rs2000 notes with Mahatma Gandhi’s image missing, another case of misprinted currency notes came to light in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

This time, some ATMs in Khargone district gave out 500-rupee notes which were blank on one side.
