Punjab National Bank adopts 2 villages for solar lighting

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has adopted two villages -- Harsha Chhina-Ucha Qila and Ladeh -- in Amritsar for complete solar lighting. Apart from this, the bank also launched free ATM cards with free cash, amounting to Rs 600 each to 60 needy girl students along with a school bag to promote their education.

The ATM cards with the cash were distributed to the girl students at a special function organised by the bank at Harsha Chhina village. The bank’s national director, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, presided over the function.

Chhina said the financial help to girls was part of the bank’s nation-wide programme `Ladli-Desh Di Bet, Desh Da Gaurav’ for the needy school going girls.

He said the solar lighting of the villages was also part of the bank’s national initiative to identify two villages in each of the district for such lights. He said the entire villages would be lighted up through huge solar lamps fitted in the villages. He was accompanied by PNB circle head Surjit Singh, bank manager Rajesh Syal, Mukesh Anand and Youth Akali leader Davinder Singh Chhina.
